This inforgraphic is a snapshot look at U.S. military and police aid as well as arms sales to the Middle East and North Africa region, highlighting the increase in aid over the past few years in aid and steady increase in arms deliveries since 2009.

Security Assistance Monitor has created an infographic that highlights the recent trends on U.S. security assistance to Africa, particularly the significant increase in Department of Defense-funded military aid.

Whereas analysis on U.S. security assistance is often focused on State Department-funded programs, this fact sheet combines the State and Defense’s request for security assistance for FY 2016 for a review of the major global and regional trends for the upcoming year.

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2015 includes many provisions that affect the way the U.S. military engages in foreign military and police aid, training and arms sales worldwide. Based on an initial review of the bill (H.R. 3979), it would create at least seven new Defense Department (DoD) authorities or programs to provide foreign military and/or police aid (see table 1 below).
